The simple weight loss mistake my client was making...are you doing this, too?

blog Nov 14, 2021

I was chatting with a client during our session the other day, and we came across a really common mistake she’s been making when it comes to her weight loss.

And I just knew I had to share this one with you, too.

It turns out, every time she’s tried to lose weight, she’s focused on changing what she’s eating.

That might include…

Eating “clean…”

Counting macros…

Downloading a calorie-counting app…

Giving up flour and sugar…

And so she’ll stick to her food plan for a while...until life gets busy.

Until that big deadline at work takes her focus or her kid’s sports season is in full swing or her elderly parent takes a fall and needs more help around the house or she finds herself in the middle of a global pandemic (helloooo?).

And once any of those challenges bubbles up, she’d find herself tossing her food plans aside and using food to cope.

Of course, the reasons always sounded pretty good...because she needed a break or....because she deserved it.

Which brought us to the question we really need to answer for weight loss success, and that is why are we eating?

If we find ourselves overeating, it’s common to tell ourselves we just need better eating habits and to focus on what's on our plates.

But the real key to sustainable weight loss is working on how we respond to the stressors in our lives and figuring out what’s driving us to overeat.

It’s why so many women who lose weight put it right back on -- because they don’t learn to lose weight while they’re living a big, full, messy life.

Fortunately, helping clients unwind their food habits and find the reasons they’re overeating is my jam.

So, my client and I are on to finding a few solutions tailored to her life.

It’s a simple combination of mindset plus easy, sustainable habits that are flexible enough to stand up to life’s challenges.

And the best news? We don’t need an app for that…
