How to take great holiday photos
Nov 21, 2021Too many of us have been editing ourselves out of our family photos.
Maybe we’re the family historian corralling the rest of our crew into the picture or maybe we’re telling ourselves that we just don’t want to be seen right now.
I’ve been there.
Well, my friend, it’s time for us to get in the photos and be a part of the memories we’re making.
Here are my tips for taking great holiday photos...and they’re not that much different to how I help my clients have a better relationship with food.
We’re going to start by working on our mindset around photos, and making a few decisions ahead of time.
Decide to get in the photo.
Decide to think about someone you love when the photo is taken.
Decide ahead of time you’re going to like every photo of yourself.
Decide that you’ll focus on the people, the experiences, and the good feelings stirred up by the photo.
Decide that making memories is more important than the lighting of the photo, or than the part of your body you feel tempted to dissect.
Decide you’ll speak about yourself in the photo the way you’d talk to a dear friend.
Will this feel lovely and natural when you do it? Nope.
But the more you practice, the less awkward it becomes….just like any habit we’ve had for a long time.
What I often see with my clients is that as they begin to be kinder to themselves in photos, they start to be kinder to themselves around other areas involving food and body.
What would it be like to end the holiday season with a series of photos of your favorite people that included you?
Consider this the gift that you can treat yourself to this year.
