Are you interested in losing weight? Or committed to it?
May 01, 2022Have you ever made a comment in one of those garage sale Facebook groups?
You know the ones where folks offer up items to sell and others reply with a “I’ll take it!” or with a NIL (next in line).
And then there’s the dreaded comment: Interested.
It’s dreaded because we’re not sure what it means.
Does it mean yes? Does it mean next in line?
It’s vague…and it’s frustrating because a person’s in line but their intent is unclear. If you’re a seller, you want a commitment.
So, how does this connect to weight loss?
Many of us act interested in weight loss without ever committing to it.
We buy a book about a Paleo diet or the Whole 30.
We follow celebrity trainers on Instagram.
We might even pay for an online weight loss program like Noom or WW.
But we don’t take consistent action. We might start, but we get less interested a few weeks in.
What would it look like to approach your weight loss efforts with commitment?
This is a great place to grab a piece of paper, and make a list for yourself of the actions that show interest and the ones that show commitment (and this can work for any goal you want).
Interest might look like: researching info online, following social media accounts, buying books, pinning recipes on Pinterest, talking to friends about how you want to start a plan.
You’re mostly consuming information, and not applying it.
Commitment might look like: making a grocery list before shopping, preparing meals at home more often, packing your lunch, adding a few more fruits and vegetables to your meals each week, making a few food swaps when you eat our, scheduling time when you will exercise, drinking more water, and pivoting when you have to.
When you’re committed, you’re not leaving success to chance.
You’re taking steps to ensure that you succeed.
And you keep going.
So, which path are you on? And which one do you want to be on?
